Difference of bricks assembly

Upper photo, it's Flemish assembly. Arranging a brick so that we can see a smaller side, the neighbor of it so that we can do a wider, doing the arranging alternatively in a line(smaller - wider - smaller - wider ... ). Be careful that the vertical seam does not overlap in between the lines(weak from disasters e.g. earthquake).

Below English assembly. Arranging bricks horizontally with a same direction(same brick length from our sight) in a line and the direction is alternative for an each line(Line odd(1st, 3rd ...): smaller - smaller - smaller - ... , Line even(2nd, 4th ...): wider - wider - wider - ... )

In later of Century 19th, they had been obtained skills of construction with bricks from Europe in Japan. At first, Japanese people in 1860's had obtained the Flemish skill of assembling bricks from France in for example Yokosuka and Nagasaki. Soon after ripe skills in Japan, they had used English assembly for a more rational purpose.

Flemish assembly had been used only in the first Westernization, so it is very valuable and rare in Japan and also in Yokosuka, the stories in Japan had been evolutionized for high level idea.
